ABUJA, Jan 9 (AGCNewsNet) – Elder statesman and legal icon Chief Afe Babalola has been awarded the 2024 Best Nigerian Patriot Award in recognition of his remarkable contributions to humanitarian efforts, quality education, and peace promotion.
The award ceremony was held during the induction and certification workshop of the Association of UN Ambassadors for Peace (ASUNAP) in Abuja. The event, themed “Effective Approach to Anger Management and Tolerance as Panacea for Global Peace and Sustainable Development,” also saw 10 individuals inducted as UN Ambassadors for Peace.
A former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, accepted the award on behalf of Chief Babalola, highlighting his unparalleled impact on national and continental development.
“Through thorough research, it is evident that Chief Afe Babalola’s contributions to national and African life are unmatched. His commitment to peace, education, and development sets an example for others to emulate,” said Adeniran.
He called on Nigerians to embrace Babalola’s humanitarian vision, stressing the importance of peace as the foundation for stability, development, and societal advancement.
The event, organized in partnership with The Mighty One Empowerment Foundation (TEMOEFA), aims to support the United Nations’ mission of promoting peace and ethnic tolerance.
Global Director of Interfaith for ASUNAP, Emmanuel Emeka, explained that Chief Babalola’s impact in Nigeria and beyond was rigorously analyzed, with voting conducted nationwide to determine the recipient. Babalola emerged as the top choice.
Emeka emphasized the critical role of the newly inducted ambassadors in addressing conflicts and fostering peace, citing rising global unrest as a call to action.
Guest speaker Prof. Casmiar Obialom urged the ambassadors to prioritize peacebuilding efforts, warning against the consequences of unchecked impunity and conflict.
Other prominent inductees included retired Brig.-Gen. Nuhu Milah, retired Commandant Anthony Nwegbo, Prof. Abiodun Ajibade, and Maxwell Abubu, among others.
Chief Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University, remains a symbol of dedication to national progress and global peace.
