BACKGROUND:

The conflict in the North East Nigeria imposed adverse impact on the region. An estimated 20,000 lives have been lost, and almost two million people have been compulsorily displaced. The human, social and economic losses of the conflict, and the investments needed for the recovery, and reconstruction are practically overwhelming. However, Borno which have been the epicenter of the conflict was without doubt suffered the most. Three quarters of the damages recorded were in Borno State. Regrettably, the most affected victims of the conflict were youth, women and children. Therefore; the need to respond to this humanitarian situation brought to life WOMEN AND CHILD DISASTER RESCUE INITIATIVES Women and Child Disaster Rescue Initiatives (WOCHIDAR) is a not-for-profit NGO with Head Office in Federal Capital Territory Abuja, Nigeria. WOCHIDAR is primarily established as humanitarian and development organization. The core aim is to provide sustainable livelihood intervention opportunities to support the most vulnerable communities both in the urban and rural areas with a view to provide better access to education, primary healthcare, employment opportunities, respect the ideals of human rights, peace, good-governance and eventually improved sustainable community development. WOCHIDAR is registered with Corporate Affairs Commission as Incorporated Trustee with Registration No: CAC/IT/NO 173466. WOCHIDAR is a Humanitarian, Non-Governmental, Non-Profit making, NonRacial Non- Religious, Non-Political Organization. WOCHIDAR humanitarian and development intervention programs are holistic, people-centred, community- based and sustainable. Therefore, sustainable livelihoods approaches are adopted for all WOCHIDAR strategic and short-term program focus in Nigeria. The organization puts into operation participatory approaches, strategic planning and community mobilization to find solutions to community problems. It offers a range of programming and support in: Emergency Relief Response, CCCM and out of Camp, Food Security and Livelihoods, Health, Formal Education, WASH, Youth, women and girls Capacity Development Programs, MicroEnterprise Development, and three Cross Cutting Issues: Peace Building and Reconciliation, Gender, andFGM,GBV and HIV/Aids, Efforts to address the impact of climate change, Protection WOCHIDAR CORE VALUES AND PRINCIPLES.

Our not–for-profit Women and Child Disaster Recue Initiatives aims to address various global challenges including poverty, inequality, environmental and climate change issues, governance, peace, insecurity, human rights issues ,engagement in livelihood programmes, women & child protection and empowerment, prevention and rescue of those under several forms of disaster, violence and marginalization. Our focus areas are social services, governance, peace and security, environment and climate change, gender equality, education, poverty alleviation, Livelihood programmes, Health. Our activities in women sector include: leadership and political participation, economic empowerment, ending violence and abuse against women, peace and security, humanitarian action, governance and national planning, youth, women and girls with disabilities.

Our activities as it relates with children include: Adolescent development, child protection, children with disabilities, climate change and environment, covid 19 response, early child hood development, education, gender, health, humanitarian emergencies, immunization, migrant and refugee children, nutrition, social and behaviour change, social policy, water, sanitation and hygiene. In governance, peace and security, activities we engage in include: country presidential/state elections which we are officially certified and accredited by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to engage in, advocacy for women inclusion in politics, advocacy for women involvement in conflict resolutions, peace processes and agreements, voters education and rights to vote, women engagement in peace talks. In consideration of environment and climate change, activities we engage in include: tree planting for flood control, sensitization on the negative effects of wild life killing, bush burning and creation of standardized drainage systems. Climate action calls to conservation. We have tagged our projects (#RESCUE PINK) a grassroot initiative intervention projected at preventing and rescuing marginalized women, girls and children. Our program seeks to promote capacity building and development. Disaster Response Expertise: Given our focus on disaster prevention and rescue, we have expertise in disaster prevention, management, response, and recovery strategies, including knowledge of emergency protocols and coordination with relevant authorities. Advocacy and Awareness: We are involved in advocacy efforts to raise awareness about the specific political, social and economic vulnerabilities of women and children before, during and after disasters and to promote policies and practices that ensure their safety and well-being.
